BOOKS AND MOVIES BLOG, Week of April 28, 2014

Before seeing a movie based on a book, read the book.  This way, you form your own images of the characters, places, and events.  Almost invariably, these are better than what the movie-makers’ budget, technology, and imagination could produce.  If you see the movie first, your mind has been pre-empted by the movie’s images.  You see the story through other people’s eyes instead of your own, which impoverishes your experience.
